Car Import Process

Car Import Process

Our Import process is simple and efficient. We have 10 years of experience in the business. When you come to us we take time to understand your car requirements and offer appropriate professional advice. We handle everything from procuring the vehicle in Japan, vehicle inspection, shipping to the port of Mombasa, clearance, registration and delivery to your doorstep. We also have a flexible payment schedule.

1

The first step in the car import process is to agree on the vehicle specs i.e. make, model, colour, desired mileage etc. as well as a budget.

On our website you will find numerous options of cars streaming straight from Japanese auctions. When you find a car that you are interested in, simply fill out the inquiry form on the right hand side of the page. This will help us to contact you with more details on the car.

Alternatively, you can call/ visit our office where our sales specialists will take you through various options as available from the auctions.

If you are not sure of which car to import from Japan, or are torn between two options, don’t worry! We will walk you through the merits and demerits of various models and answer any questions you might have. Our goal is to ensure that you get a car that you are happy with.

2

Having understood what you are looking for and how much you want to spend on it we will then monitor the auctions for matching options.

We will introduce these to you, and when you find one that you are happy with we will go ahead and confirm its condition, using the auction sheet and if necessary, have it physically inspected by our partners in Japan. We will also advice you on when the car will be selling at the auction. If you give us a purchase go ahead, we will move to the next step.

At this point, we will also give you a breakdown of the total cost of the car, factoring in total CIF cost, import duty, shipping fees, port charges, clearing fees, our agency fee and other miscellaneous costs.

3

In order for us to purchase the car we require a commitment fee (deposit) of 30% of the total value of the car. At this point we will also sign a legally binding sales agreement which also discusses the payment schedule.

When the deposit is received we give a go ahead to our Japanese partners to purchase the car from the auction.

4

Once we have purchased your car from the auction, the next step is for it to undergo mandatory KEBS inspection. Our Japanese partners will also start the process of de-registering the car and getting it ready for the next available vessel for shipping.

5

After all paperwork is completed in Japan your car is shipped out. Shipping takes roughly 27-30 days, depending on several factors. When your car arrives at the port of Mombasa our Kenyan team takes over for clearing and registration.

6

After registration we deliver your car to your doorstep or as discussed. At Croton Motors we transport all our cars on a carrier, as opposed to driving them on the road.
